Introduction

Urbineer is looking for a Prototype Build Technician to be part of our group that will play a vital role in developing next generation vehicle structures and assemblies. As a member of our team, you will be involved with a variety of projects: assembly of flightworthy airframes and aerostructures, fabrication of prototype metallic components and assemblies, and integrating / testing vehicle subsystems. You will be working in a challenging and fast paced work environment on multidisciplinary teams.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Fabricate, assemble, install, and test state-of-the-art prototype vehicle parts, systems, and subsystems with minimal supervision
  • Follow manufacturing procedures, engineering instructions, and quality control requirements to maintain traceability in work performed
  • Assemble structures including setup and alignment, drilling, bonding, and installing fasteners
  • Provide manufacturing feedback to engineering to improve part producibility 
  • Support engineering design reviews and development of manufacturing plans for tooling, components, and assemblies
  • Proactively maintain cleanliness and safety of shop and lab areas. This includes requesting equipment, maintaining tools, and acting on safety issues/concerns
  • Meet scheduled timelines and, in some cases, aggressive deadlines to support project milestones
  • Work on assignments that require judgment in resolving issues or in making recommendations
  • Proficiency in the use of measuring tools such as scales, calipers, and micrometers 
  • Surface prep, hand abrade, and power abrasion techniques 

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum

  • Direct experience / training in aerospace fabrication and assembly procedures
  • Aerospace industry experience of 5+ years in fabrication
  • 3+ years of experience with fastened or bonded assemblies
  • Capable of demonstrating drilling Class 1 holes consistently and installing fasteners such as HI-LOKs, HI-LITES, and other aerospace grade hardware  
  • Interpreting engineering models, drawings, and notes 
  • Trained in aerospace / aviation metallic processes and using equipment/tools to perform the following types of task: welding, sheet metal fabrication, drilling, trimming, and simple part machining.

Preferred

  • A degree in Manufacturing Engineering, graduated from a technical college, or have a FAA approved A&P license 
  • Capable of demonstrating an expertise in aerospace / aviation metallic processes and using equipment/tools to perform the following types of task: welding, sheet metal fabrication, drilling, trimming, and simple part machining.
  • Training in aerospace / aviation composite procedures, cleanroom environment protocols, and material processing equipment such as ovens, autoclaves, and presses 
  • Industry experience of 10+ years 
  • Industry demonstrated leadership experience of 5+ years in a fast-paced work environment handling a large variety of composite and metallic processes that require traceability and conformance to engineering requirements.
  • Capable of performing and overseeing drilling Class 1 holes consistently and installing fasteners such as HI-LOKs, HI-LITES, and other aerospace grade hardware
  • Capable of interpreting engineering drawings and notes
